Dynamic Baseline in ACR Improved Forest Management v2.1

In version 2.1 of its Improved Forest Management (IFM) on Non-Federal U.S. Forestlands methodology, ACR included an updated approach for developing and evaluating conservative baseline scenarios, including an innovative, project-specific dynamic baselining framework.

To support stakeholders – especially project developers and carbon credit buyers – in understanding and communicating the approach, ACR has created a new infographic and explainer video featuring Andrew Taylor, Senior Technical Manager, Forestry.

The infographic and video walk through the four-step process:

  1. Identify all relevant constraints to forest management, which ensures a legally, physically and economically possible baseline scenario for the given project area.
  2. Substantiate forest management practices, including the appropriate silvicultural prescriptions and the intensity with which they are applied.
  3. Develop the baseline harvest schedule, ensuring that harvests only target merchantable and financially profitable timber.
  4. Dynamically evaluate the baseline over time, reviewing key assumptions ex post and revising as necessary, prior to any credits being generated, on a continuous basis throughout the life of the project.

We encourage stakeholders to use the infographic and video in their communications.
